The line that "it won't happen here; our sanitation protocols are so much better than in Africa" is beginning to sound more and more like BS

It's big news around here. People are freaking out because they are stupid and ill-informed.

I honestly don't see how any of this is news EXCEPT that the nurse A. wasn't told to not get on a plane, B. was stupid enough to get on a plane, and C. why the patient was treated at a Dallas hospital that was apparently under prepared instead of being moved to UT Austin or Emory etc....

If we'd like to have a medical freak out - how about one that's an actual outbreak/threat?

When I read the thread title, I was reminded of that horrible Disturbed song - and I hate y'all for that.

That graph kinda sucks. No scale bars :(

Here's a cool interactive map that may have been posted before:

I read or heard somewhere that they are predicting there will be several cases in the major cities in the US by end of the year.
Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

Luckily we seemed to have avoided the rest this year. The only thing that's been around that's vaccine-preventable was chicken pox (and perhaps whooping cough although we don't know anybody who got it).

Yeah, so it looks likely that we may have gotten whooping cough (pertussis). Luckily we were vaccinated so it didn't hit any of us full blast (my youngest daughter had almost no symptoms, my older daughter and I had cold symptoms and mild cough, my wife was the only one with a pretty bad cough). But the worst part is that we have several immuno-compromised people we'd like to be around for the holidays so it's a pain in the ass trying to make sure we're not contagious. :|

Colin has Influenza B.  Fun, but luckily the symptoms are minor.  Fever, a little fatigue and a minor rash.  Luckily it started last Sunday so we'll be clear by Christmas when we travel out to my family.

Yuck on all counts. Sorry you're going to have to isolate Charlie.  Are you going to have to do any sort of long term treatment?
