Why do people smoke?
« on: January 12, 2015, 11:38:12 AM »
So this is a round-about way to the topic, but here goes: my son needed a dresser.  He's had his stuff in plastic drawers in his closet for years and he's to the point that he needs a 'big boy' dresser.  Long story short, my wife found a dresser that was custom painted on craigslist.  Black on the sides and tops, yellow drawer fronts, Steelers emblem on the side.  It looks amazing!  So I went and bought it.  There was a slight smoker smell in the house but I didn't think it was too bad.  I got it home and realized that it smelled worse than we thought.  It smells like a dog's wet asshole.

So we clorox wiped it, wiped it down with a vodka mix, used this 'neutral air' stuff on it and it is better but I can still smell it.  We're also surrounding it with baking powder to hopefully pull the smell out.  I'm not sure what else to do.

But I guess my point is, do people know how bad they smell and they just don't care?  If I smelled that bad I would do something about it.  And I get that it is addicting and hard to stop, but seriously... how do people live like that?

A smoker AND a Steelers fan?  Man, some people have no taste.

In that I have been overweight most of my life, I can understand an addiction.  Smoking however is so expensive, such a social negative, and really an overall increasingly big pain in the ass.  What I don't get at all is despite the knowledge of the negatives of smoking so many start.

Now on to your wet asshole dresser....

a fresh coat of polyurethane should take care of the smell.

as to why people smoke? like knuck said, it is a nasty addiction - and some, like I used to, just enjoy it!

I smoked because I looked like a fucking badass doing it!

Of course that's my own opinion, but I started smoking because I thought it looked cool and b/c I had time to kill.

But eventually (about 18 years), I got tired of my hands constantly smelling like smoke, my hair smelled of smoke, all my clothes smelled of smoke.  My car reeked of it.  Thankfully, I never smoked in the home, so I just smelled, but not the rest of my stuff.

When I quit smoking, I had to get rid of the car because every timed I turned on the AC, smoke came billowing out instead of cold air!

Even though I miss the ritual of smoking, I don't miss the stench.  To this day, when I smell smoke and food, I get nauseous.

People do seem to think they look like hot shit because they smoke.  I don't.

BTW on this stuff.

I ran over a dead skunk during the summer, the car in front of me hit it.  Fresh and a TON of it.

Hit the car wash on the way home.  Didn't seem to help.  Sprayed it with tons of this stuff and by the time the wife got home she could not tell inside the closed garage.  WIN!

I'm consistently torn by the peer pressure of smoking, I mean I know I'd look cool as hell smoking, and I mean I'm only sacrificing my LUNGS, plus I could just cover my self in cheap cologne to get rid of the smell. Plus, I'd only be spending $12 a pack every now and then depending on how cool I REALLY look doing it so it's not even breaking the bank that much.

I understand the peer pressure - part of the reason I started smoking was so that I had something to do while I waited for my next class.

Can confirm - smoking will fuck your lungs up!

All I got from big tobacco for 18 years of smoking - good 'ol fashioned asthma.  I can do about 2 flights of stairs before I start gasping and have to reach for the inhaler.

If you wanna give the illusion of being a smoker, just burn some dry leaves and stand near it for a few minutes.  Then you'll really stink like a smoker.

My dad smoked for 30 years or so. He probably looked pretty cool doing it. Now he has a cancer where smoking was one of the biggest risk factors and will probably die this year.

But that's just anecdotal evidence. If anybody wants to start to smoking I don't see the harm.

I quit smoking around 2008/9ish.  Don't recall the actual date
