Basically rick closed down the board to get everyone he didn't like (which is pretty much everyone here) to jump ship.  We went to jboard.jprogramming.com temporarily, thanks to axon.  A bunch of us donated money to buy hosting, ober got us a good deal, and we moved here.

edit: It's also worth mentioning that rick initally lied about the reason he was closing FD until we confronted him about it.

It's also funny when you take into account that elmutt is a mod there. :D

just adding more info...

he posted an announcement that fdiddy was closing in 30 days to update the forum software, and that we should find another off-topic forum to visit. people were confuzzled, pm'ed rick, and sooner or later it was clear that he felt the board was too foul-mouthed or not nice enough or something, and a lot of us were to blame. 15 days short of the deadline (or so) he closed that board and opened up another with vbulletin 3.x.

after a month or so at jboard we raised the money to buy hosting and vbulletin 3.x for a new site, and voted on the name entropysink (as opposed to ambivalent donkey, which is obviously the total opposite of an entropysink, duh).

etcetcetc

the only thing i really miss is a linux forum of my very own :(

I still say we should've gone for ambivalent donkey.

Although, I guess my opinion would mean more if I had donated money, right? :P

Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

Wouldn't have made the slightest difference to me - your opinion, that is. :p ;)

Seriously, though, everyone's opinions count, Ober's twice but that's just due to his spam-count. Anyway, everyone gets one vote regardless of any financial or other contribution they've made.

Entropysink is littered with references to ambivalent donkey anyway, in recognition that it was the second most popular choice of name. For example, the default user titles refer to it and this site's main page clearly states that

I remember taking a look at FD a long time ago, and deciding not to bother (for some reason it didn't seem interesting enough), but I found out about jboard and joined just before/during the crossover to esink, and now I'm here
