Your thoughts on my ebay ad?
« on: December 21, 2009, 11:08:03 PM »
So I decided to sell my ham radio that I bought last spring. I spent nearly $300 on it and used it once then decided its kind of dumb to talk to random people driving around in my local area and, chances are, I'll never actually need it for emergency communications in the coming apocalypse.  If I even do get back into the hobby, I'd prefer to talk to random people that live very far away - its just more fun -- but it requires a different kind of radio.

So here's the rough draft of my ad: http://www.micahj.com/vx7r

1) What do you think? Should I change any copy or add anything to it?

2a) How much do you think I should charge? I paid less than $300 (before shipping) but the MSRP is $369. It can be found online for $299 although, the only ebay sales i see now are "buy it now" prices of $339.  I'd like to get at least $250 but would obviously prefer more -- and could maybe settle for less.

2b) Should I set a reserve or a "buy it now" options?  And what about shipping?

3) How long should I set the auction for? shorter or longer?  and should I wait till after Christmas to start or do you think it doesn't really matter.

Its been a while since I've sold anything on ebay and I'd like to do this right and get the most for my money (which reminds me, in setting the price, I have to remember that ebay and paypal get a cut off the top  :( )

Otherwise pretty good.

I'd set a Buy It Now price just under the $339 ones if that's the most frequent price for BIN. $319 or something; I don't know about anyone else, but if I were in the market, and yours was $20 cheaper, I'd get it. After eBay and PP take their cut, you'd probably be around the $250 mark, right? I don't know how much they take though.

Other than that, good ad. I always trust it more when people take good pictures.

yeah, I think most "hobbist" hams have a shack in their basement or garage thats as your picturing.  Some of the hardcore folks and EmCom folks have some pretty sweet gear though.

anyone see the cover of Linux Journal yet?   http://www.linuxjournal.com/ham
