I'd like to try Judo though, or Jujitsu.
I have a blue belt (2 down from black) in Jitsu which is a style of JuJitsu here in the UK. I gave up for the following reasons:
1. I learnt at university. Once I left I travelled around a bit and never found a club to join.
2. Once you get to Purple belt you have to start training in defence against 'sharps' (real knives/swords). I saw a Brown belt whom I really respected make a mistake and get slashed across the wrist, losing the use of his hand, after this I questioned whether it was really worth it.
3. The constant pain. To get those last couple of belts you have to train really hard with people who are going to give you a really rough ride. I'd go to training on Monday night and then be bruised and sore all day Tuesday and Wednesday, then have to go and do it all again Wednesday night. In addition to this I never met a black belt who didn't have some sort of joint problem. Being slammed into a mat 100s of times a week causes long term problems.
Our style also incorporated some Judo. Each year our best Judo guys would have a go in the Judo nationals. Judo is really good fun and extremely good for fitness.
