Topic: I bought a 360...

...it was a battle between the Wii and the 360, but I had a Wii and sold it before Xmas last year so I thought I'd go for another XBox.

Pros:
1. Cool games that are pretty cheap
2. I think I can setup my Linux NAS drive to act as a media server that the XBox will read from
3. I can play decent games without having to boot into windows (on linux I have the id Games, Unreal Tourny & a few games that work with wine)
4. I finally get to use the HD port on my TV

Cons:
1. Microsoft
2. Having to pay each month for multiplayer
3. Controller will never be as good as the mouse.

Aren't they "better" now? If he just bought it he might luck out and it'll last a good few weeks

That's why I went for a newer one. Still, it has a 1 year standard warranty, and after that I'll probably have got bored, dismantled it and tried to load debian on it...

Linux shouldnt be a problem. Not 100% on the 360's but i know the original xbox people were running linux on them.

or you could not modify it, play it like a good little boy, and wait for the red ring of death. "warranty" is a bad word to use around 360 owners

And im pretty sure you wont get banned from xbox live for having linux on there. Guys with mod chips are safe on live

I haven't had a single problem with mine in a year of ownership, and I've got the old version.

360 is 10x better then ps3, no argument there. My two friends that have 360's both have mod chips in them and play on xbox live just about everyday. Have for a long time. I installed the mod chip in adrians on his birthday last year which was aprilish so its been almost a year and a half on his.
