I'll put FRAPS on tonight and let you know.  It feels like it gets lower than that at some points.

I'm pretty sure you have to use 9.

OK, just got done playing for a couple hours.  I was consistently between 15-20 FPS.  It got around 40-50 in some places, and went as low as 10 or so.  I thought it was playable enough, but YMMV.

This is at 800X600 with bloom turned on and all the other options on.

The big gripe I mentioned earlier is about stolen items.  When you steal something, it's marked as "stolen" in your inventory and no normal merchants will buy it.  You can only sell stolen items through fences you get after joining the Thieves Guild.  IMO, they took what was my biggest problem with Morrowind and magnified it here.

Still a phenomenal game, though.

Ok, finally got out of the opening dungeon.  I've walked around a little bit and didn't run into any problems with FPS.  My specs are Athlon 64 3200+ with 1 gig of ram and GeForce 6800 GS for video card.  Bloom and most high detail setting on, 1024x786 resolution.  Haven't downloaded anything to check out my FPS but it seems fine.  Haven't hit a high traffic area yet though.

I think the gripe about key bindings is not being able to map specific skills to keys other than 1-8.  Also, you can't remap things like the map key.

You can expect a mod to come out real soon to fix that whole stolen items problem.   Lots of people are complaining about it.

Oh, and is it possible to move the camera around your character without moving the character?  I haven't figured it out unless you go to the inventory screen.

Ask and ye shall receive, here is a mod that lets you sell stolen items: http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=294525

Now we just need a mod that shows that spell/action wheel so I dont have to memorize what keys I placed my 8 spells on.  Pain in the ass to accidentally cast water breating on myself in the middle of an epic fight :(

Stop your torture I want this game so much :(
I was thinking of selling most of my PS2 games since I hardly ever play them. Sounds like a plan  :cool2:

Oh, awesome.  To be honest, the idea of a fence is pretty neat, but I really think they implemented it the wrong way.  I hope fixes it the right way, though.

After playing the game, do you guys think the punishment is a bit harsh or fair?
govtcheez03:  i kind of look for it - i seek out stupidity and annoy it until it either gets better, gets banned, or goes away on its own

I think it's a pain in the ass do get dragged to the castle everytime I've got a bounty for 5 gold, but I've got no other problems with it.

How do you guys think an x1400 with a Core Duo processor could handle this game?

Got the game yesterday,  and from the couple hours I was able to play I can sum up my review as "even the rats are improved"   When  I had a rat jump at me and a quick spell sent it backwards I finally felt that I had justice for those two rats that killed me in morrowind.   Though I almost felt bad when two rats came running around a corner, and while able to kill one the other ran right past me, turning around I was unable to get a shot and decided that I'll have plenty of rats to kill.  So I turned back around to meet what had apparently scared the rats, a zombie.

So far my favorite quest I've done is the one with the ring of burden, I was only able to care 2 more (?pounds) after acquiring it so I had to stash everything but my pants somewhere to retrieve it.

I remember getting owned by a bouncing worm thingy in Morrowind. Oh, and the woman in that windmill type house at the start of the game - how many times do you need to stab someone in the face before they die?

Stupid dice.

I have succumbed to Oblivion but, despite my current pc just meeting minimum requirements, have found it surprisingly playable thus far, even in the 640x480 screen resolution it decided in its wisdom to burden me with.

I got quite a surprise to learn that King 'Urinal Septic' (or whatever his name is) is read by Paddy Stewart (Sean Bean and Terrence Stamp do some voices, too, apparently). I decided to go for a diy class rather than one of the preset ones so, naturally, I am playing a Fhucktahrd; class statistics are as follows:

  • Specialisation: combat
  • Attributes: Strength, Intelligence
  • Skills: Alteration, Armourer, Athletics, Blade, Heavy Armour, Marksman, Mercantile

Holay Sheeyit, my Fhucktahrd character, is currently 2nd level, a Breton and stuck in some town near a Priory, the name of which eludes me at present. Having leapt everywhere, telling bad jokes to any who would listen, Holay Sheeyit has - ahem - leapt from 5 to 29 in Acrobatics but has, sadly, only gained about a dozen points in speechcraft. Holay is a regular little potion factory when time and ingredients permit and enjoys breaking lockpicking tools at almost every opportunity. He can't see at all in the dark but, thanks to the weightlessness of torches in the Oblivion game-world, is equipped with a small forest of the handy, portable lights.

Holay had a horse for a while but it had real steering problems (it's reverse gear wasn't too great either) so he tried to kill it but, alas, it proved to be immortal. He did gain a whole heap on his blade skill while trying to render it into dogfood, though. Holay is morbidly fascinated by how small furry creatures like rats and pooches twitch spasmodically once they've been slain.

Holay joined the Mages guild recently but suspects they may all be gay on account of the fact that every time he goes to sleep on a bed in the Mages Guild, he wakes up in the morning with some other guy sound asleep next to him, sometimes buried up to his knees in the mattress. Holay has so far been unsuccessful in his attempts to join the fighters' guild where, hopefully, they have a more traditional one-to-a-bed-unless-you're-married policy.

Haven't seen any cliff racers yet which is an unexpected bonus.
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?.
