AGP or PCI video card
« on: August 27, 2007, 11:16:33 AM »
I think I found a dual video card that will suit my needs in the recording studio. I'm just wondering if I should go with the AGP or PCI version of the card. My preference would be the AGP but if anyone can convince me otherwise.

AGP over PCI for video always.  It would be even better if it was PCIX, but it doesn't look like that's an option.

AGP > PCI
PCIX > AGP

I don't think my board has an express slot (maybe one, but the thing's a couple years old).

So AGP it is then. I'm going to run to microcenter after work and see if they have one in stock and will match the price I found at newegg. $50 isn't all that bad to finally get both monitors working.

If the board is more then a year to a year and a half old its probably not supportive of PCI-X. That and i have never seen a board with AGP and PCI-X its one or the other. Not saying they dont exist, ibut i never saw one.

AGP and PCI-X are never located on the same mobo.  The licensing does not allow for the possibility.
