Guitar books etc. recommendation
« on: May 19, 2005, 06:02:01 PM »
This request for recommendations is on behalf of my wife, Mrs Herself; I wouldn't know a guitar from an over-starched string vest, to be perfectly honest.

So, if anyone can make any suggestions for good books, software and/or online or other resources for a beginner onwards please do so. Mrs Herself used to play guitar years ago and has recently taken it up again.

Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

Chord chart thinger

oh, and the chord name finder is cool when you find something that sounds pretty but you're not sure what its called.

Harmony-Central.com is one of the best music resources I know of. They'll link you to Olga.net which has a plethora or tablature for guitar.
As far as books go, Mel Bay makes some good books but the Hal Leonard Guitar Method series is pretty much a classic.
I really like the Hal Leonard stuff myself (never used the method books though).
This signature intentionally left blank.

The books I've got are all pretty standard - as long as you can get one that has a CD for tuning & some backing tracks to play along with she'll be fine.  When I started I spent most of my time doing chord work, then eventually moved onto scales & such.
