Is it worth the risk riding a motorcycle?
« on: September 15, 2005, 05:29:37 AM »
I was thinking of buying a motor bike due to not being able to afford running a car but needing some kind of transport. I know heaps of people who have almost died riding a bike but im guessing it would only be for a year so so. I dont know whether its worth the risk though...any thoughts?

I've always wanted a bike personally, but I hear far to many horror stories about other drivers.

They're fine, especially on gas. Given how much you post about your alcohol intake, maybe not the best for you, though.

I've never owned a motorcycle, but I ride a bike (as in a Giant OCR2) just about every day. Two years ago I was riding my last road bike and was hit by a car, breaking my right leg pretty badly. Since then I've ridden under the assumption that once you get on the bike, just assume that you're invisible.
From what I've been told by motorcycle riders, being slightly larger/louder doesn't make you any more obvious to most drivers.
If you see a late model four door, and nothing but knuckles and blue hair behind the wheel, be very afraid.
Leave the gun. Take the canolis.

I was thinking about getting a motorcycle too, but just a dirt bike.  I'm far too chicken to ride anything on a road with other cars around, just way too many horror stories, plus even the smallest accident can be big problems on a motorcycle.

Personally, I'm against speed bikes - too many of my friends have died riding them. I would get a chopper one day.
Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

motorcycles cant get seatbelt tickets as they arent standard equipment. Same if u get pulled over in a car such as early chevy's that werent made with seatbelts u arent required to have one.

We have two choppers, the hayabusa, and  a few dirtbikes. Everyone has to die somehow

Um, just visit Ogrish and look at all the pictures they have
of Motorcycle accidents.

You know what's totally unfair? If you get pulled over in your
car while not wearing a seatbelt, you get a ticket (at least
in Utah, anyway. Not sure about other places); but what
about on a motorcycle? They don't have seatbelts.. or,
if they did, they would be rather pointless. /deep thought.

Yeah, but I can't get a ticket for not wearing a helmet in my car.

bikes are great... I've wanted one for a while... just keep in mind: snow and rain.

think it's hard getting up that hill in a car? think about on a bike... when you're freezing your nuts off as it is :(

illionois is one of the very few states that doesn't require a helmet - all you need is some sort0of eye wear...stupid, eh?
