Didn't double check to make sure no one had picked him before so if it's a repost let me know -

Alexander I, Tsar of Russia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_I_of_Russia).  I'd like to see him attack Napoleon on the other island since they don't get along :p

as an employee of the American Radio League of which he founded, it is my pleasure to pick...

Hiram Percy Maxim
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiram_Percy_Maxim

His father invented the Machine Gun, he invented the "Silencer."  He also raced in and won the US's first closed-circuit auto-race.

The FCC wasn't established until 1934 and Maxim's work in amateur radio helped assure that the spectrum would remain free and open for (regulated) public use and not become monopolized by commercial and government interests or become a wild-west mess of constant EM interference.
Countless inventions of the 20th century trace their roots back to "amateur" (meaning non-commercial, private, entities) radio electronics which could not have been possible without the organization of early operators by Hiram Percy Maxim.

Even though I'm not religious I would be fascinated to hear about the real life of my next pick, also his opinion on how his life ended up shaping the world, Moses:

I picked Ramses II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramses_II) because I was reminded of the traveling exhibit that visited TX back in the 80s.  Apparently, I still have my ticket stub (I'm a pack rat).

long before Al Gore invented the Internet to allow the quick and inexpensive mass distribution of written knowledge there was...

Johannes Gutenberg
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johannes_Gutenberg

While the idea of movable type preceded Gutenberg in eastern Asia, he was the first to use it with great effect by inventing the printing press.  The historical impact of easily disseminated information is self-evident so I doubt I need to write much more here.

What's going on here peoples?

This thread was a-hoppin' then - boom.  Nothing.

don't make me have to call in favors from my friends at the phone company to get your numbers and I'll have to make threatening phone calls . . . again.
