New Laptop: My Turn
« on: September 03, 2012, 04:09:37 PM »
Here is what I'm looking at. Thoughts? Will have to post price later, their "Shop Now" is broken. I'm ordering it no OS, putting 8 MSDN on it.

$823.20

Description
IdeaPad Z580 Laptop - 21514DU - Gray
Processor:   3rd generation Intel Core i5-3210M Processor( 2.50GHz 1600MHz 3MB)

Check out the idea pad U310. Gets great reviews. Similar price or a bit cheaper. Just got one for my step dad. He should have picked it up today. I'll let you know what he thinks.

Is the hardware the same? The biggest thing with this model is the speakers, I hate crappy speakers. And I need the hardware to backup what I'm using it for. Also the 1TB is mandatory.

Not shit. But that model is pricey as fuck...similarnhardware is available but not with 1TB.  For that much HD you're gonna have to get something think....

For what they are giving I think $823 is a good price. It will actually be slightly less, they don't have the no operating system option online but on the phone last week they said it will knock around $75 off for not having one installed. 1TB is mandatory because it gives me lots of HDD configuration options for handling my data.

The main purpose of this machine is in my home with the option of going mobile, so size isn't a bother. In fact I would like more than 15.6 on the screen.

The U series hardware is too low, I looked. I would save around $50 for a drop in performance power.

Yea not really. I would go desktop but I want the mobility option. I will probably buy a 22in LCD and run on the HDMI out 99% of the time.

FWIW, I bought this on Friday for my mother.

Yes, it's a lower end model (and this is all moot since it's sold out on Newegg anyway), but at $350 after MIR, I couldn't say no. Hopefully it's not too heavy for her.

I can save around $50 by taking the ram down to 6GB also. The configuration on their website is limited surprised to what you can do on the phone.

This will be my first Lenovo. Can't wait till oct when I can order it.

I want this one, but they can't give me the 1TB option and the ram is maxed out so I'm sticking with the Z series I picked out.
