The Wine List
« on: September 12, 2012, 11:10:29 PM »
Never thought I'd be a wine person... but here I am.  We've tried a lot over the past 2 years and we're starting to find favorites:

Black Mountain - Sauvignon Blanc (we get it from Trader Joes)
Naked Grape - Moscato (http://www.thenakedgrapewine.com/Our-Wine/Moscato.asp)
Barefoot - Pinot Grigio & Sauvignon Blanc (http://www.barefootwine.com/our-wines)
John Christ - Special Blend & Ice Wine (local winery) (http://www.johnchristwine.com/our_wines.html)

I'm sure there are others and I will add to the list over time.  Obviously we're more into white wines but the Special Blend is red and we just tried another red that I can't remember but we find most Reds to be dry and we don't really drink it at meals.  We're more of a 'wine and movie' couple.

Anybody else have suggestions?

I enjoy Cabernet Sauvignon and tend to get http://www.rodneystrong.com/wine-shop/current-releases/2009-sonoma-county-cabernet-sauvignon but I'm not set on that brand or vineyard.  I definitely prefer reds over whites or blushes.  Pinot Noir is also a good one.

Yup.  A great deep red that works well in many situations.  We have been using it for fifteen years and often receive compliments on it.  Even better it isn't over priced.

I have had other brands of Shiraz that I couldn't stand.  Yuck.  Stick with Rosemount Estates.  Their Cabernet and Chardonnay are also above average.

If you want a really nice cheap-as-in-price wine try "fusion," from Argentina. The shiraz-cab is really nice and it's about 2/3rds the price of some other wines.

I only drink wine when I'm at my dad's house because I don't buy it myself.  He tries lots of different one's but his goto wines are Rodney Strong and Charles Shaw (but he has to buy the $3-buck-chuck ove the border because trader joe's can't sell wine in CT)

i used to drink lots of wine in the past. Now it is very rarely. But when I do, I like this "new" wine called Apothic Red - it is a blend of several wines and it is pretty tasty. But by far my favorite wines are from the rhone region. They are very rich, very dark, and quite heavy.

My wife likes moscato, sweet reds, and rieslings

I used to drink wine quite a bit but lately it's been IPAs and bourbon. But when I do drink wine my favorite is Cabernet Sauvignon. I really like Greg Norman for a moderately priced wine (at Sam's Club) and when I go to fancy parties or special nights it's Simi (Alexander Valley). I also really like Black Box too for a cheap everyday kind of wine or parties where people aren't wine snobs. And on the really low end Jacob's Creek Cab/Merlot is good too.

When I drink white I try to go with a Saugivnon Blanc and my default is Chateau Ste Michelle although there are a few cheaper ones that I'll go with from time to time.
