how many miles?
« on: July 16, 2012, 03:09:03 PM »
People often bitch about American cars and how shitty they are - I, for one, am very please with my work vehicle: a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee v6. I am about 50 miles away from hitting 140K! I got the car, In May of 2009 with just over 40K on it, and since then the only things I needed to do with it are brakes (twice), tires (twice), waterpump, and soldering some cables in the boot of the driver's side door. As it ages it gets better on consumption as well - and I have record from my fleet card to prove it. When I got it it averaged around 17MPG, now I am at just over 20! Yes, I do a bit more highway driving these days, but I still think this is an amazing change. Similar thing happened when I owned a Hyundai Elantra way back when.

So, how many miles are on your vehicles?
Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

2006 Lexus 110K, still like new, serviced per the manual at the dealership, failed a motorized mirror, and the switch that opens the trunk fro the cabin.

2004 VW Diesel, 120K, serviced per the manual, independent mechanic, updated front suspension, new coolant sensor, new side lamp, new hatch locking mechanism, new rear windshield wiper.

Current is the '09 Journey with ~40k.  The '96 chevy 1500 my brother gave me had almost 200k miles before I sold it.  The guy who has it now has it up to 220K and it is still running like a champ.

folks with over a 100K - what was the biggest repair you had to get done?

I think my worst has been replacing the struts on one of my cars and that wasn't even that bad.  That was on my alero.  Granted, when I turned in my Grand Am at 140K, the transmission was on the way out.  Like it wouldn't shift into the highest gear.

Knock on wood, a battery. Her cavalier had 150k when we met and she bought it with 80k and has never done anything but oil changes and brakes.

I'm not sure what my brother did before giving me the truck but I had to replace the alternator and the radiator on the Chevy.

Too many to remember. Lots of cooling system repair stuff on the VW. On the Kia I think mostly regular maintenance. I don't remember specifically. I don't keep track very well.

2007 Honda Accord 22K
2010 Toyota Prius 9K

I ride my bike to work;  my wife drives (the accord) because she take my son to daycare, but her daily round trip is like 8 miles.  boom!
