Title: New laptop for work.
Post by: Rob on May 01, 2009, 09:36:10 AM
After some advice. I have a budget of £500 to buy a new laptop for work. Need something fairly robust, with a nice screen. Any recommendations? Must be a windows machine. Ta!

Gateway.  Seriously.  I have seen several offerings in that price range that are outstanding machines.

I was surprised also.

Thanks Knuck. My boss has now decided he's going to buy it, so I guess I'm in the lap of the gods. He is going to buy a machine with a blu-ray drive, mainly to piss off our IT manager, who's desperate for one :D.

I had a coworker purchase one a couple of weeks ago.

I am working from memory here...

Core 2 Duo (not a DuoCore), 6Gb RAM, Vista 64, nVidia ??? video solution, large screen 17" I think, 640GB HDD, touch panel side controls for music and video playback, DVD burner (no Blu Ray).

Good looking deep wine red case.

I set it up at work.  Very little horse crap on it, snappy response, and solidly built.  If this had come with Windows 7-64, I would have purchased one.

8/10

BTW $600.  Yeah.  Holy shit.

11/10 if you consider pricing.

Ober.  Peck.  Again.  Yeah.  Holy shit.
