Anyone else fall in love with Django lately? http://www.djangoproject.com/

We're getting married next Fall.

I'm trying to get all about Grails. The side effects of being a Java developer. Trying to figure out how to move our Spring based projects to Grails instead and make life easier and faster (even faster than already).

Love these new frameworks popping up though.

Got a book on it but havent got around to it yet.

Still messing with the various Win modules written for python...do you know you can write COM servers with this stuff? And not just IDispatch...I mean stuff like Office Add-ins and shell extensions.

Cool

Python?  Ick.

What's "ick" about Python? I've been drinking the py kool-aid lately. It's a damned powerful language, and once you get past the whitespace thing, you might like it. But I'd like to hear some valid criticisms. I'm a PHP hater, never tried Ruby beyond a few basic examples; Python's been an amazing alternative (to PHP).

Doesn't matter if I throw up after 3 minutes on the site.  If I can't get to the information about it then it fails.

Oh and PHP rocks because it does

I prefer python because I can do more with it. I can do the usual web stuff like cgi, or embed python into webpages like PHP using python server pages or I can use one of the many frameworks like Django or Turbogears to make my site.

Then I can code some shell scripts on my linux boxes and then code some shell extensions or office add-ins on my windows boxes. Hell if I want to throw in a GUI I have plenty of frameworks to chose from

PHP is fantastic for web stuff...python is great for everything

So there...  :nana:

I doubt that python is great for doing robotics on an 8bit processor running at 16 MHz.  Granted neither would PHP but no one language is good for everything.

And I've done some system stuff with PHP.  For example post commit scripts for SVN.

And if I need a GUI I just write it in PHP and use a browser ;)

My NSLU2 runs with a 32bit X-Scale CPU at 266Mhz and runs python fairly well. I know the processors your talking about though and apart from vendor specific C compiler you dont get many options.

GCC and the entire GNU chain is vendor specific?

The Sun SPOTs run at 180 MHz and do java.  But if you only need some really lightweight processors then those languages become less useful.  At the same time I wouldn't touch GUI writing in C for all the gold in Fort Knox.  I've been there and done that and I ain't going back.

Really? That's pretty cool. The ones I found always had some weird "C" compiler bundled in that I wouldn't usually touch with a barge-pole. If you can can get GNU on it then that's pretty good.

Yeah it was nice.  I still used some special front-end for doing the hex writing but it was free so that was ok.

I tried to buy one of those X-Scale development boards a while ago. They can run linux or CE but you can also compile your own code with GNU and use RedBoot to run them on startup. I couldnt get the board I wanted though so I'm still searching Ebay
