HTTPS - Security
« on: January 13, 2007, 03:05:32 PM »
Hi,

I wanted to update my domain through powweb, and it is a https://... URL, but the lock in firefox has a red / through it.  And there is information regarding the SSL certificate signed by Comodo Limited.  Is it secure since it is a https URL? or does it need the lock without the line through it too? Im a little confused.

Thanks

micah

my understanding is that it is secure in that the data being transferred between your computer their server IS encrypted; however, the security certificate they have with Comodo Ltd.,which is basically just a third party authentication company, has probably expired or something like that.

I could be wrong - anyone else?  :dunno:

I would contact them and find out if they're aware of the issue and wait for them to fix it first - just to be safe

The cert you are using is not signed for your domain. It's a wildcard cert for *.powweb.com so technically it's not the right cert for your site (unless your a subdomain of powweb.com). You need a cert signed with your domain name.
Bottom line, you need to use a different cert or use a subdomain of powweb.com.
This signature intentionally left blank.
