Title: moving member data
Post by: ober on April 12, 2005, 01:33:40 PM
I'm in the process of moving all the member's data to this server.  As I did on the previous board who's name shall not be mentioned, I'll post an FTP account and link to it in my sig.  Eventually, this members area will be linked from the home page for those who desire it.

FTP user: esmembers@whproductions.com
FTP pass: donkey
FTP server: www.whproductions.com

I will be keeping tabs on the folder and the size of it and will request house-cleaning if it gets to be too big.  I think I may even create a stats page so you guys can check it yourselves.

And as before, everyone has read/write access to this stuff, so just be careful what you do in there.  And I would appreciate a PM to either myself or one of the other admins if you plan on transferring a large amount of data to it for someone else to grab (ie. > 500mb).  At least then I'll know what is going on if I get an email saying we've hit our space limit (1500 mb).

I'd also like to offer up subdomains to member's folders if they wish... we have about 996 of them to use (although subdomains to user folders would just be a redirect, not a strict subdomain with your own folder on the document root).

Thanks and enjoy.

no no... you've got it all wrong.  it's "superadmin" power abuse ;)  And I already had a discussion with me, myself, and I.  We all agreed.

The member data has all been moved, except for the Terry Tate videos which I'm currently uploading.  If anyone is still missing something (which they shouldn't be) let me know.

We can also begin to link to members folders from the front page, but I'll make a sticky about that.

I would just have a general index file in the root member directory and link the main page to that.  Members can add content in their own folder and then a link to their page on the root index file.

If we do this, remember all to keep a copy of your content locally as we will probably get our sites defaced from time to time.

I think password access should be granted via PM only. (and should be changed periodically)

I'm not really a fan of putting an index file in the member root, unless that is what everyone wants.  I like to go to that page and quickly see who has updated what recently.  It keeps me up to date on people's music and such.

Although, I guess I could do the same with a PHP file, and only list the ones that would like to be listed.  :dunno:

Okay... however you want to do it is fine by me.  I need a link to a betazep directory.

I am going to start a page with some of the more memorable quotes that come across these pages from time to time.

It will be called
