I have a Toshiba netbook that I installed Ubuntu on. For the most part it works fine but sometimes it won't boot, acting as if it can't find a boot sector on the hard disk. The strange thing is I can get it to work again by booting the live USB and rebooting. Then it seems to find the grub info just fine. I recently upgraded fresh to 11.04 Ubuntu and it seemed the problem went away (I was running the older 10.04 LTS) but then I came back this weekend and the gf said it was broke again. A quick boot to the USB drive and now it's working again for the time being. There aren't any errors being reporting with the disk utilities and no obvious problems I can think of. I don't get why booting the live OS fixes things.
Any ideas what might be going on? This is a new one for me.
