knife making
« on: May 18, 2015, 05:10:43 PM »
I'm planning to make a few knives this summer. I think they would make nice gifts. I was inspired by this article:

Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

Jake I am no expert, however I did look into the various types of knife steel stock a while back.

Check out these two CPM S30V and CPM S35VN.  They balance of corrosion/stain resistance, wear, and edge retention.  Fairly modern and though not super high end solid and lifelong quality.

Hmm, that instructable I referenced uses cra1095 (and that is what I ordered). That steel does not appear at all on your link. I'll need to do some more research

Lemme know what you find.  I did a quick search and it seems to be an "easy to work with" alloy.  Which seems like an attribute that maybe one would not want with a knife blade?
