Getting a new laptop
« on: November 26, 2005, 08:11:14 PM »
I just got a laptop, my dad is bringing over on Tuesday. It's a 64 bit AMD Turion. It comes with Windows XP Home Edition, and obviously I am not staying with that. What good OS is out here which supports most of the new peripherals (wireless card, something something memory card) and which works good under 64 bits? I heard XP Pro. is pretty sucky at handling 64 bits. I've been considering Fedora 64 bits. But then again sometimes linux burns some hardwares.  Or any of you guys have any OS running in 64 bits? If so how is it handling?

Ive used Fedora on 3 different 64bit architecures, all of which run fine.

Yes i've heard stories of people that some of their hardware gets messed up with linux. Such as some cheap video cards or something. I don't know if it has built in wireless support for linux, but what i will do in the meantime is to install virtual PC and try out a couple of distros and see how it goes.

I have a perfectly legal never installed and never registered copy of windows XP Professional 64 Bit : ) (pm me)

As for XP, if its not the 64bit version its not too good at handling 64 bit. The 64bit version is very nice, however
