Ya know, a lot of people have been saying things like "google is going to take over the world" and "google is going to rub out the smaller companies", but it seems like a lot of other companies are stepping up to the plate now and coming out with new stuff.

I think it's a great thing.  Google is pushing innovation.

Discuss.

The only people I hear saying that kind of stuff seriously are fags on slashdot, and they still use it anyways.

They also bitch about DRM and everything, but god help you if you try to take away their ipods.

Yeah, Mac zealots get to me sometimes. They make it sound like Apple is perfect in every way, but they're all about DRM and proprietary software, too.

Does anyone know of a good online music store that isn't riddled with DRM? I like my fair use rights just fine, thank you very much.

There's apparently software out there to strip DRM from itunes mp3s.

When Apple heard about PyMusique, they released a new version of iTunes just to deal with that hole, and they now require everyone to have the latest version to use the ITMS.

In relation to ipods...I think people are stupid. There are better value for money players out there but people buy ipods because they're hip and/or cool. I also know lots of people who's ipods have broken or somethings fucked up with them and go through like 3 replacements. And who the hell spends $400 on an mp3 player anyway? Talk about getting your priorities straight...

i love this place!

where else can a thread start about google and competition and wind up as a discussion as a discussion of apple, proprietary-ness thereof, and of mp3.

I really like google.  I say more power to 'em.  I hope that they get big enough to beat the crap out of Microsoft somehow or another (like in the remote desktop arena that I posted at jprog after ober posted it... or something like that)

On a side note... love the rhyme AX.

Yup I like google, it works, its fast and it doesn't piss the crap out of me with adverts (they don't get in the way and if they make money from them then more power...)
