Bluetooth delay

Why does bluetooth have audio delay? Some devices less than others, but I don't think I've ever used anything that was synchronized with the video. Even these new headphones I  got have a delay - it is significantly;y less than my old ones, but noticeable. My car also has a delay. What's up with that?
