I'm excited
« on: August 26, 2011, 05:03:29 PM »
Only 19 days until whitetail archery season opens here. My stuff is all dialed in, setup and ready to go and my trail cam is packed full of soon to be dinner deer.

Anyone else hunt? I bought a new cookbook with over 300 different venison recipes in it. Last year I only had about 75-80 pounds total after i gave a lot away. Not this year!

I have a couple friends who hunt. They gave me some elk and duck jerky. I've gone out and shot varmint with them but I only have a .22

Not since moving to PA.  Used to a bit though.  Never enjoyed deer hunting.  Cold and boring.  Bah.  I want the deer meat not the cold ass.  I just want to shoot a doe, clean her out and chow down.

I enjoyed rabbit hunting with beagles though.  Tasty lil beasties them.

Killed hundreds of varmints.  Did most of the killing with a .22 or .270.

Used to hunt deer as well as other smaller game.  Sold my 30.06 when I moved to Ohio.  Like Knuck, I didn't really enjoy it all that much.  I enjoyed hanging out with the people I hunted with more than the actual hunting.

I totally enjoy hunting, just not sitting in a blind freezing to death.  Boring and silly.  Most other kinds of active hunting are a blast.

Deer season is MI started in Oct and was already freezing. Here it starts in September and the weather opening week is in the 70's. Even when its freezing i still love it.

i like guns and shooting inanimate objects.  I've never been hunting but it just doesn't seem like it would appeal to me.  I don't even like fishing because, well, fish are gross.  I can't imagine shooting a woodland creature and then cleaning/gutting/eating its carcass. ick.

My friend shot some kind of ferret/weasel thing today. He thought it was an otter.

Why would you shoot an otter?

Well I wouldn't. We regularly shoot nutria since they're pests, so he probably was in the mindset of "any rodent in the ditch is a pest" or just "gonna shoot some stuff."

After further research, I think it was probably a mink.

I have heard that nutria are a mess.  Like groundhogs/woodchucks are here.

Mink, otters, and most of their ilk are generally left alone here these days.

i saw your pics last year. i felt sad for the cute little baby deers.  aren't you only supposed to kill the big ones with lots of points on their antlers?
