Title: Bikes / cyclocross
Post by: Perspective on November 23, 2017, 02:15:33 PM
Anyone into bikes? I've been wanting to get a cyclocross bike for commuting (and for fun). My commute is mostly pavement, with a section of rough park paths and a small section of gravel paths.

They're pretty pricy but I've found a decent deal on a Felt v100 http://m.feltbicycles.com/productcatalog/product/4/10172084

Anyone familiar? Comments or suggestions?

Hey.  Hey.  Let it be known.  Nobody gets to give me shit about my bullshit long links anymore.

That is all.

I went for the freewheel/fixie. http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/mercier/kilott-wt-fixie-wide-tire.htm

I'm not really big on cycling but this one looked like a decent "cheap" bike and I was actually really happy with it. Lots of reviews on the 'tt' version of the bike but I'm glad I went with the 'wt'. As best as I can tell the specs mimic a Surly frame that I was looking at as well, but had a hard time finding locally.

Picked up a felt v100 in December for about 1/3 off the MSRP. I've never actually rode a bike like this before, and couldn't even try the bike before buying. But the price was great so I took the risk. I had it out a couple of weeks ago when we got a wave of nice weather. It's so light and fast compared to the "regular" bikes I've always had. Can't wait until it warms up a bit more and I can start ridding to work.

Seems like it might work even better if you had pedals?

Pedals are so old school.... I'm just gonna bolt my feet directly into the holes provided. :D

Like clip ins with pegs? That's hardcore.

Right now I just have flat pedals on it. Better for commuting to work. If I can find some cheap used clip-ins I may try them, but I'm not too worried about it at the moment.

Weather is total shit right now though. It's actually snowing :(
