The National Football League has penalized the Detroit Lions for violating the league's anti-tampering policy, according to several sources.

The Detroit Free Press, as well as NFL.com, indicates the Lions have lost a seventh-round pick in the 2011 draft and will also switch fifth-round picks with Kansas City for publicly commenting on acquiring players under contract with the Chiefs.

Kansas City now owns the ninth selection in the fifth round and Detroit the 23rd.

Let's look at the recent history of Lions 7th round picks

Tim Toone: Practice Squad!  He sucks
Willie Young: Still on the team?  I don't know, he's never played
Lydon Murtha: who (on the Dolphins now, never played)
Zach Folllett: Special teams guy, might have had his career ended last year, crazy guy, douchebag, does awful commercials, I do not like him
Dan Gronkowski: Sucked, traded to Broncos for Alphonso Smith, so that's ok
Landon Cohen: who (apparently playing NT for the Pats)
Caleb Campbell: Practice squad, no one would care who he was if he hadn't been in the army
Fred Matua: who (lol he's in the UFL)
Anthony Cannon: who (lol CFL)

That's as far back as I'm gonna go

I'm not saying its a disaster, just that they seemed to be on a positive momentum and regardless of what they would have done with the pick, loosing it can't help the morale/mindset

Nah, I doubt it's going to make a difference.  7th round picks are almost universally practice squad guys or roster fillers.

Yeah, this is not a big deal. Happened to the 49ers a couple years ago, and this punishment is even smaller.
