this is about me

I'm trying to talk about it less but I'm afraid I've already gone too far down the road of being that guy so I may as well embrace it

I don't wear my watch unless I'm running though :)
And I do plan my weekends around my long days
And I do irritate lots of people talking about it

fuck

I ran three miles on the treadmill yesterday. http://app.strava.com/activities/106193024

I think my race calendar is full for the year.  I've got a 5K starting and ending at a brewery in May, a half in June (trying to break 1:48), a "festival" in September (half, 5K, 10K, 5miler in a weekend. sometimes nude?), and a full in early October.  My sister is trying to get me to do the Color Run so I may do that as well, but this should be about it for "serious' races.

I'm going to be attempting to do it with the Hanson's Marathon Method, which means 6 days of running a week, more than I've gone since high school.  Going to have to concentrate hard on not getting burned out or getting hurt.

edit: oh, I'm a bit less fat now, although more than I'd like.  Weighed in at 167 this morning.

I do have a serious question though. The last couple years of you getting back into this level of fitness, has Stac(e)y also made any lifestyle changes? If not, do you think that's affected your training in any way? Your dietary habits?

Yesterday I did 5.6 miles at an 8:52 pace.  I did it with a little Jake on my shoulder.  We're going to get through this together, buddy!

Stacey's trying to work out a bit, but she really doesn't enjoy it.  We are trying to eat healthier at home - I'm trying to eat less meat in general, and that affects a lot of our dinner choices.

edit: It's partially a double edged sword though - I sure as hell am not thinking about eating healthy on Saturday mornings when I get back from a long run.  That affects things as well.

Busted out the Yaktrax at a local park last night.  It was pretty cold outside, enough so that my beard froze up a bit.  What a weird feeling.  Running through the snow is hard as hell, even with the Yaktrax

Did 6 miles around the neighborhood yesterday, got a sweet ice beard and almost frostbite on my nether regions.  I saw a guy shoveling snow in shorts, so it was good to know I wasn't the dumbest person in the area.

My half marathon training begins in earnest this week.  I'm hoping to break 1:45, which would be pretty aggressive, but I think is doable.

Really looking forward to traveling south today, since I'll be able to run outside and it'll be nice.  *checks weather* FUCK, 25 in Little Rock never mind

I sucked it up and joined Planet Fitness.  I hate everything about Planet Fitness except the cost ($20, which amounts to free for me because we're reimbursed through work) and the fact they have locations 5 minutes from my house and office.

I really dislike the attitude of the place.  Gyms shouldn't give out free pizza and tootsie rolls.  Their "Judgement Free Zone" is stupid - no one likes the people who scream and throw things, but they're a really small minority of the people I've ever seen at gyms.  IMO the chain is looking to appeal to people who want to get in shape without actually working hard.

I also think it's hypocritical that the "no gymtimidation" gym partners with the Biggest Loser, which (though I haven't seen it) appears to be a show about yelling at fat people.

getting older is horseshit, by the way.  I had three beers last night and I've been wiped out all day.

Got the upgrade bug and got a sweet new running watch.  I think it made me faster

http://app.strava.com/activities/113791898

I'm several weeks into the warmup for this training cycle.  So far, so good.  I have been able to stick to the treadmill running better than I had expected to, but I'm coming up on the start of speed work, which is intended to be done on a track.  Thanks to the awesome winter, I'm not totally sure I'm going to be able to find a track that is clear enough to run on.
