Title: College Question
Post by: phpdood on May 03, 2005, 04:30:46 PM
Howdy ya'll....
I'm sure that most of you are huge computer nuts, so here is a question that is going back and fourth between my friends:

Dell D610 or IBM T43.

Let the battle begin!

Don't you have a mac?

Anyways. I'd say the Dell (but the D610 wouldn't be my choice), I have a T42 for work and it's nice and thin but the IBM keyboard bugs me (and I'm petty like that) and it only has a 1024x768 screen (which bugs me more).

I'm still waiting a bit to replace my I8200 but haven't found a model I like better yet.

>>and it only has a 1024x768 screen

that would be enough to turn me away from any laptop. My Dell 600m runs at 1400x1050, anything less would be uncivilized (tm)

I'm not a huge fan of Dell laptops.  I've seen more with problems than without.  I'm not a huge fan of IBM either, but they'd be my choice out of the two.  Have you looked into any Sony models?

I'm mainly looking for something thin and light (less than 5.5lbs, I'm a weekling), and something with great docking capabilities...I am going to go out and buy a nice 19" LCD setup to go along with it, so that is why  I was looking at dell and ibm. Last I checked nothing else had docking..unless i'm on drugs.

Sony has docking stations, and I'm fairly certain Toshiba does as well.

I'm talking integrated docking, with a port on the back just for docking, not a USB type of dock....I know, picky picky.

Check out the Dell 700m. I just ordered one for my brother, and one of my friends has one that she loves.

Bbelieve it or not the Dell 700m is heavier than the D610. I think that is what I will go with, has a std. 3 year warantee on it. Coming from an Ex-Bestbuy Computer salesman, most of the stuff that goes wrong happens in the first year, but having that extra protection is a comfort thing. The D610 can also have a dedicated video card on it, and the higher res. screen. Thanks everyone!

I've got a Dell d810 for work.  The resolution can go high enough that other people can't read the text, and I got a docking station.  No complaints, except the docking station USB ports randomly crap out.
