Title: Fantasy Football 2014
Post by: charlie on August 05, 2014, 01:42:42 AM
So we don't have enough people on here to form a full league, and the same is true of other places I frequent. Since I've only been in one football league for the last few years and I'd like to be in two, I finally said fuck it and created this league.

It's a live auction draft, which I have found to be fun in basketball leagues. Otherwise rosters and scoring are Yahoo defaults.

Sign up esinkers.

I'm looking at you Cshot. And you PJYelton. kermi, ober, micah, jkim, jake, govt... you guys, too. I don't want to hear anything about girlfriends or husbands or marathons or kids taking up too much of your time. Just sign up and let the chips fall where they may.

If you want to simulate having me in the league, draft a team for me and then ignore it

I signed up.

Sweet!

Hope you can make the draft. The auction thing is weird at first but I really like it.

You are auctioning off players?  2/3 of whom are black?
Title: Re: Fantasy Football 2014
Post by: charlie on August 05, 2014, 12:39:05 PM
No, we are purchasing the players. Yahoo is the one auctioning them off.

I've been purchasing players for years now, but usually in a serpentine draft format. That format gives unfair advantage to those with the privilege of selecting first. With the auction, if you find a person who you really want to own, you just need to pay a premium for him.
Title: Re: Fantasy Football 2014
Post by: ober on August 05, 2014, 01:02:07 PM
Wait wait wait... what's the deal with the draft?  This isn't the serpentine kind we've always done?  I'm not going to pay for players.
Title: Re: Fantasy Football 2014
Post by: Govtcheez on August 05, 2014, 01:19:14 PM
Auction drafts are really popular for baseball leagues.  I don't think charlie's suggesting this as a real money league - you get $100 or whatever and people bid on players until the rosters are full.
Title: Re: Fantasy Football 2014
Post by: Jake on August 05, 2014, 01:35:02 PM
charlie, when is the draft?
Title: Re: Fantasy Football 2014
Post by: ober on August 05, 2014, 01:46:51 PM
Aug 28th, 8:30 EST.
Title: Re: Fantasy Football 2014
Post by: charlie on August 05, 2014, 01:52:08 PM
Yeah... this is a free league, no money, no prizes. Just like we did before.

And yes, it's an auction draft, not a serpentine draft. So you get $200 of fake money to spend on players at draft time.

Auction drafts do seem to be the wave of the future for most sports. I don't mind either way but I've never done one for football so I wanted to try here.

It's too bad Adrian N Peterson isn't in the league anymore.  He would be fun in a league like this, like the multiple Ryan Brauns and Chris Youngs in baseball

Or the autodraft. Which is kinda weird/imperfect but still tends to draft pretty good teams.

Actually, we have a customer in Phoenix that we have to meet with a lot. Since they don't do daylight savings time, the number of people who don't know the difference between MST and MDT (and PDT and EST and EDT and so on) actually caused some minor issues.

kermi! Let's do this.

I'd still like at least 4 more teams after yours, but I have more ideas on where to find them.

What about the rest of you all? You used to play, why not play again?

Alright, we have seven (:|), and my backup person to make things even has a conflict on draft night, so we need just one more person...

Where are all the old fantasy football peeps? You know want to join just to show Cshot who's boss. You don't even have to post in here. Just sign up today or tomorrow and we draft Thursday at 6:30 MDT.

Title: Re: Fantasy Football 2014
Post by: charlie on August 28, 2014, 12:13:09 PM
Well... I might just have to contact him. For some reason one of the players just left the league the day before the draft, so we're back to seven people again.

I'm not really in the mood to fix it but I'll be disappointed if we don't get to do the draft so I guess I'll keep trying to recruit one more player.

:(

By the way kerm/govt, did you guys get that co-team worked out?

If not we can do it easily with Yahoo. I can transfer the team to cheez and after the draft transfer it back to kermi.
Title: Re: Fantasy Football 2014

If kermi hasn't already signed up for a team, I'll register for one, draft, and then you can transfer it.

Jake, I assume there's a decent chance you don't see this or the invite. I'm going to add an eighth team in about 20 minutes and then assign it to you after the draft so I can have the rest of my evening free from worry.

Thanks!

Except for overpaying for Adrian Peterson because I forgot it was an auction and I panicked, yes :)
Title: Re: Fantasy Football 2014
Post by: charlie on September 03, 2014, 03:33:56 PM
It was an interesting draft. A lot more autodrafts than I expected, and two of the people who were there left. So the autodrafts all spent their wads of cash really early, leaving me and Cshot to basically take whomever we wanted out of the last 50+ players. All we had to do was bid $2 and the auto-drafters couldn't outbid us.

In the end I think the teams are reasonably fair, though, since the autodrafts did get quality guys for each team. It's a little more fun when you're going against real people (and I'm not convinced Cshot isn't just a more advanced bot with a trash talk feature). But hey I wasn't even sure if it would happen so it's all good.

I'm hoping maybe we do it again next year, get 10 people, tweak the rules a bit (I prefer a flex position or two and maybe 0.5 PPR) and get more people to actually show up to the auction draft.

Any rules changes you guys would like to see? I just did the default Yahoo settings this last time, but I didn't like it.
