In-Ear headphones
« on: October 15, 2009, 07:24:29 AM »
$20 shipped is a very good deal on these.  Usually one day only at this site.  I have used ThingFling several times in the past with no issues.  They are Altec Lansing, however they obviously worked with Etymotic to create these.

I have been using Etymotic since the early 90s.  I have yet to locate a better head set company.  Great quality.  That said Altec Lansing is known for really awful customer support.  The polar opposite of Etymotic.

Anyway, deal of the year on earbuds.

So this is completely completely not related to your post, but has anyone ever had problems with their in-ear headphones shocking them in the ear? It starts to happen to me every winter when I start wearing jackets and I take them or my backpack off.  Freaking hurts! How do I stop that?

sounds like you're getting zapped with some static electricity caused by the friction when you're taking your jacket and/or backpack off.

I gotta admit I laughed out loud when I read that Jen.

I have been using my Etymotics (I now have two pair) for years in all seasons.  I work out with them, do my outside yard and snow removal work with them and have never suffered anything like that.

I have also put a good deal of time behind Razer, Apple, Sennheiser, and Steel.  I have used several others including a BluTooth set but not extensively over a full year yet.

I have never had this happen to a single pair.

Question.  Is this isolated to a single set or source device?

I don't use iPod headphones but it's not isolated to a single device. My nano definitely did if more than my touch so far but it hasn't been jacket weather until recently.

Do you think it's an iPod thing? It gets annoying after a while to take off your headphones before every time you take off your jacket especially if you have to travel around campus.

Kermi could answer better, but I have and use the Nano (fat) and the Touch.  No issues yet...

Ever Google it for similar cases?

ick! I hate getting shocked. If my headphones did that I would throw them out immediately.

I suppose if you really like your headphones though, you could just buy one of these things and develop OCD constantly grounding yourself.

drats. Missed out I guess. I don't know if I wouldve gotten another pair though. Maybe I'm just charged funny (I have the fat nano and the touch and with two different pairs of ear buds). I think a new pair of over the ear headphones are going to be on my christmas wishlist.

Get Sennheisers if you are able to.  Anything from the 515 up is probably worth it.  The HD600s run around $200 on sale.  I have used them and they rock.

BTW if the cord gets damaged it can easily be replaced.
