Dan Brown A&D

Angels and Demons

Meh.  6/10

It wasn't nearly as fun as DaVinci Code which was a 9/10.

I think we touched on this book a long time ago.

I read it but didn't read DaVinci.  I liked it - but I thought the dénouement was a little corny.  The only other DB book I've read was Digital Fortress (his first novel) and I liked that a bit better; its more of a techno-thriller, which is my preferred genre.

I'd actually give this a higher rating than Davinci Code.  9/10 easily.

I really liked this book. I didn't read DaVinci code cause I had already seen the movie.

I wasn't a big fan of digital fortress either, there were just too many oversights in the technology stuff.

Ditto... even my wife pointed those out.

Only read The Davinci Code (which btw is much better than watching the film), have listened to unabridged versions of the other two though (great way of passing car journeys!). I enjoyed angles and daemons, maybe 7/10 and would probably give Digital Fortress 6/10 but had to try very hard to ignore the technological oversights!

Wow - you're quite generous.

I give it (DaVinci Code Movie) a -3.8.

The book, however, 7/10

I don't mean to sound like a snobt, but his books are fucking dire.  More plot holes than a block of Swiss cheese.

I know this thread is old as fuck, but I want to reiterate my hatred for Dan Brown. I had to read Deception Point once and I still don't know if I've recovered.

Quote
Waspy McWasp, the ruggedly handsome, world renowned Harvard professor of Useless Crapology is summoned to Europe to analyze the mysterious murder of a famous computer programmer. While there, he discovers evidence of the unimaginable - the definitive and substantial proof of an unbreakable encryption algorithm. He must work with Lara, the extremely beautiful and intelligent government analyst, in order to beat the clock and unlock the mystery.

Waspy McWasp's worst fears are confirmed when he discovers that a bunch of special ops has been murdering innocent victims, including a bunch of cute penguins. He and Lara must rush against the clock, and use their knowledge of obscure art, ambiguous history, impossible computer science theory, and inaccurate theology, as their investigation takes them through the mysterious streets of Lisbon. They encounter further difficulties when their efforts are thwarted by the director of CERN who has his own plan for solving the mystery and unlocking the secrets of an unbreakable encryption algorithm.

Waspy McWasp and Lara put their fate into the hands of the director of the CIA who actually turns out to be the one who planned and orchestrated the entire devious plot. As they expose the treacherous director of the CIA they must also face the truth that an unbreakable encryption algorithm was just a fabrication, and does not really exist. When the director of the CIA is finally exposed, he tries to escape, but tragically dies engulfed in infernal flames, as Waspy McWasp and Lara look on. With his last breath, the director of the CIA explains that his motives were actually good, but got corrupted and twisted by evil ambition. Putting the entire fiasco behind them, Waspy McWasp and Lara kiss in a very romantic and awkward kind of way.
