So a customer brings me his dell laptop yesterday, just out of warranty (and decent spec) running on vista. Says dell replaced the motherboard three months back and now he's getting a lot of bsod. So I get to looking and its throwing blue screens and showing errors related to the ram. So after several clean slates with vista I tried xp. Xp faired no better and was slighy worse.
So just for shits and giggles I tossed ubuntu on it and not a single problem. It ran memtest all know and passed perfectly and is currently passing a few integrity checks.
So I emailed the customer and said you can replace the ram, but it tests perfectly good in linux, and it may fix it or you can run it on linux.
He said screw it if you have a use for it u can keep it ill order a new one.
