Need ideas

So let's just say I know someone that downloads movies and tv shows and that person would like to be able to transfer those shows and movies to another individual, preferably in digital format, not on a CD/DVD, but something you could hook directly to the TV and control with a remote.

What would you suggest?

Only thing that comes to mind is a DVR with a hdd

This was my initial thought... but the cost would have to be insanely low... it's not high priority for the other party but it saves me a rather large hassle.
