Benny. Do you honestly think that these people give a shit about other peoples eyes? Seriously?
They are replacing the original cell PCs for the new lab. I have had a great deal of influence over the new PC design, monitors, and interfaces.
That said they still made a few mistakes. Minor enough though. The memory I spec'd and the absolute shit they purchased is going to be a serious bottleneck.
Otherwise Core 2 Quad Q9400 (originally a Core 2 duo). 4GB of soon to be replaced memory (I would guess). Corsair 850 Watt modular power supply with aftermarket CPU heatsink and fan (with Artric Silver 5). ATI Radeon 5750 fanless. Industrial case, mobo, and backplane.
Monitor is the same 2233 we sport. I talked them into realizing that the form factor is here to stay and that a 17 or 19" square panel was not the way to go. Two panels per cell with an option for three or four. The ATI supports up to four under Windows. IT is at least a 30' run for the DVI cables and they needed a boost.
Thanks to RobR I picked out a lindy booster and 20m cable for testing. More to come on that front.
Sadly we are still going with XP 32 bit. Damn. I am pushing hard for them to start testing and development of W7 64 bit. For what they are going to be doing, they will need it. I can see the need within a year or so to go 1366 (six core) and at least 8GB (maybe 16GB) of memory.
Anyway at least the operators will have nice monitors and a ton more real estate to gawk at all day every day.
Durability is also updating. Similar specs. Normal 6' video cables. Cases will be CoolerMaster 690s. Amusing eh?
