Mafia Boss uses Caeser Shift Encryption [math|news]
« on: April 18, 2006, 12:48:47 PM »
Heh, I thought this was pretty funny. A huge mafia boss used a simple +3 Caeser shift to encrypt the names of people in his messages. We had to solve these things by hand in my discrete math course, it probably takes less than a second to crack a it with a computer

I got an encrypted note from the Mafia once - It made me an offer I couldn't understand.

I read (ok, saw it posted, maybe skimmed it) this a few days ago on /. Pretty dumb if that mafia boss actually thought it would keep the names secret. Given how strong the Caesar cipher is, he might as well have written in pig-latin
