I spout it loud and proud on web design sites I visit: DOWN WITH FLASH.

But I don't know what is so special... I use a variety of this type of functionality in various sites that I run.

It seems like a high level abstraction that allows quick development of flash like features through xml. Writting all the javascript/xml features from scratch would be a lot of work. I guess thats the appeal. If i have some free time this weekend im gonna look into how this works a little more. Ill post back with what i find.

edit:
bah, after a bit of reading this isnt that great after all. It uses a backend servlet to compile swf bytcode and stream that to the client or something. I thought it was independant of swf. boooo

flash should NEVER be used in web design... I can't stand flash pages... I have to admit though, I have visited some tastefully designed flash pages, but most flash-users like to show off the flashiness of flash...

looks good, but it really take a long time to load :dunno:

I have a friend in Colorado who does webdesign for a living and almost all of his websites rely on flash in one form or other. If utilized properly, and unoptrusevely, flash is a great tool. Here is his website, check out some of his clients' pages; quite functional and good looking too. http://www.lighthousewd.com/
