Finally got a Laptop

Well it wasnt EXACTLY what i wanted but it fell into my lap (no pun intended) for a hell of a deal. I'm not an Intel or ATI person but i can definitly accept it for the price. Great part is its brand new and i wasnt actively looking for one lol.

Summary:

HP Pavillion DV4000

Intel 1.6GHZ Centrino
ATI 128MB X700 Mobile
512MB DDR2 Ram (Expandable to 1GB overall, x2 slots)
60GB Toshiba HDD
15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
54g(TM) Integ. Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN & Bluetooth
8X DVD +/- RW/R & CD-RW Combo

It has the upgraded drive with that litescribe or whatever its called for writing cd labling onto the disk. A friend customized and ordered it a month or so ago, and when it came in he used it long enough to set it up and thats it. He found out his g/f is pregnant so hes been working 6 a week and he asked me if i "needed" one because he needs cash. I asked him how much because i dont *Really* have the cash to spend on it. He said all he wanted was enough to  pay it off and get it outta his name. Just so happened he only owed $397 and some change. So ladies and gents, i paid it off and gave him 100 bux, so all in all this thing cost me right about 500.00.

Not bad for a 1300.00 laptop :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Its already been zereo filled and i got XP pro installing (hate home so bad) with plans to dual boot Slackware onto it. Aite, time for work, just wanted to share with someone

My laptop (Latitude c640) just had it's hard drive shit the bed after making a repetitive, loud clicking noise. Still using it (right now as a matter of fact, gotta love Mepis and the other live CDs) but now I need a new drive.
Any advice on a good hard drive for this thing?

i'm getting me (purchased, but i haven't received) a dell xps m140 (not the pimped out black and silver monstrocity, but the smaller, prettier one).

1.8 intel m
xp media center (i'll prolly throw linux on it then I can MOL it up!!)
1g sdram
80g hd
8x CD/DVD (DVD +/-RW)

since i was planning on using it for tdy's and such, didn't go for a bigger hd.  now if it was my porning pc - look out!

my new laptop is pissing me of royally!!!

it sees my wireless netowrk and i'm connected to it, but i can't get a stable internet connection.  dell best rekanize or this fucker is going back to roundrock!

what kind of router is it? If its a linksys flip it over and tell me the first 6 digits of the serial #. I might be able to help you boost the shit outta the signal without much effort.

actually after trying (with dell tech support) everything, the tech suggested i disable the encryption, connect to the network, then re-enable the encryption.  worked like a charm.

i was getting ready to send it back, guess i wont have to now.
