I'd get a 120 just not worry about LED for now. knuck can explain why. If you want to save a bit, drop down to a 40"; it's still plenty big for most uses.

I'm not going to worry about LED because it is out of my budget :D

what do you guys think about this model?

I think we found a winner: http://www.abt.com/product/44747/Sony-KDL46EX400.html

good reviews, good contrast ratio, nice brand.

Nice specs.  Vis is getting good reviews these days for the $.  You do not want LED lighting, as it is blotchy.  120 HZ does not look fake so much as it looks more realistic.  Also 120 HZ allows for 3D adaptation if it is ever desired.  60 does not.  Anything over 120 is just hype.

it is not :( I just checked. Too bad....guess I have to keep looking. I hope that in two weeks or so Christmas sales will start showing up as well.

it might've been an audio/video sync issue or maybe the tv (but probably just me not being used to it, since 60 hz looked great). i feel ridiculous saying it, but it's too smooth.

low contrast ratio - from what I read the higher the ratio the nicer the picture, i.e. blacker blacks etc

Jen that might have been some of the dsp that's known as soap opera effect. My TV came with enabled and I quickly turned it off.

I notice the difference between 120Hz and 90Hz when watching football (and the Olympics). That's why I wish I had the 650 instead of the 550.

I read that plasmas are higher than 120hz...or rather that it doesn't matter. but they put 120 on there because the LCDs have it....

Please note that I'm not sure it's really the 120Hz that is the issue, although I believe it is. I also don't know how plasma handles sports at all.

Oh hell yes this is totally true. (Although I think I could get used to it so I don't have pixelation in my football games,)

Jen that might have been some of the dsp that's known as soap opera effect. My TV came with enabled and I quickly turned it off.

I found a setting in my brother's TV to turn that off, and it was over a year ago so I don't remember exactly, but for some reason I thought the setting had to do with the 120Hz.

Oh, and thanks for calling it the "soap opera effect". Now I know how to describe my annoyance to the people who don't see it.

The contrast ratio spec is faked.  It has no functional basis in reality.  Disregard it completely.

The 120 effect is going to be the standard as the 60s seem to be on their way out.  We all became used to the 60 look as our reference, but maybe we are going to have to get used to the 120 in the future.  I don't really have a preference.  Reviewers seem to prefer 120 during fast motion scenes (sports).  Small fast moving objects and motions are supposedly easier for the human eye to register and follow utilizing the 120 setting.

All 3D sets are 120s.

thanks for your help guys. It is between these three sets:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Toshiba+-+46%22+Class+/+1080p+/+120Hz+/+LCD+HDTV/9835115.p?id=1218181016262&skuId=9835115#tabbed-customerreviews

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Panasonic+-+VIERA+/+50%22+Class+/+1080p+/+600Hz+/+Plasma+HDTV/9786054.p?id=1218174065119&skuId=9786054

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+-+50%22+Class+/+1080p+/+600Hz+/+Plasma+HDTV/9789343.p?id=1218175322173&skuId=9789343

I think that both of the plasmas are a better TV than the Toshiba...they would work out good in our basement. If we do get one of those, I wont be able to get a blue ray player right away :( the downsize, maybe 50 is too big? I dunno. They also had an open item sony 46 that was $849 ...and the guy said he would deal on it.
