So... would the CPU/RAM bottle neck the performance on the 7800 much?




NOTE: This post came from boredom and deciding to see how much a cheap P4 + 7800GT + 512mbs of ram would cost.

I don't think the CPU or the RAM is going to be a bottleneck... keep in mind that that graphics card is actually going to take load off the CPU.  However:

1) If your mobo is designed to have paired RAM and you only use 1, it will be slower than what it should be.

2) Using less than 1Gb for the latest games is kind of a joke.

3) Get the XFX 7800 GT within the next few days (before Nov. 30th) and get yourself a free copy of COD2.

Honestly, the cheapest A64 I could find was $142 (wasn't it like $130 a week ago?), so that's why I picked the P4

I'd probably pick a 6800GT over the 7800GT and put that money into another 512 of RAM

Try A64X2, A64 or P-D or nothing. P4 is going out, it is like Celeron.
