English assignment
« on: February 15, 2006, 10:25:17 PM »
I wrote this today for my English class, thought it turned out ok. It's based on a scene from a movie:
Quote

The gaunt, dark haired man turned silently as the door was locked shut. It was day outside, but with the curtains covering the window, the sun could only illuminate the small room with a dim light. The man let his empty hands hang uselessly at his sides while he assessed his surroundings. A dirty bed against the wall. A sink. Some shelves and a cupboard (empty, no doubt). A musty stench that came with years of disuse. And the object he had almost felt as he walked into the room. Covered in dust, it had clearly been neglected for some time, yet it was a beautiful, torturous sight to his eyes. He stepped carefully toward it, his footsteps barely audible on the wood floor. Reaching out an empty hand, he lightly caressed the wood surface, feeling the grains beneath his fingertips. Slowly, he raised the lid and sat on the cold, hard stool. He closed his eyes, stretched his fingers out in front of him.  He played passionately, yet the room was silent. He leaned forward, the music resonating inside him. No one knew he was here. No one heard his melancholy tune, his longing for better days, for an end to this suffering.
