Ober games?  How current do these need to be? 

Not to tip my hand, but 90% of the games I'm considering picking were from before this millennium.

Oh and yell at me when it is my turn.  I suck at keeping that stuff straight.

Coolio, we have interest. Today is Friday and I won't be online much this weekend, so we'll probably start Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

If anybody has input on how to distinguish between similar games I'd love to hear it. Should Madded NFL 08 and Madden NFL 09 be separate games? What about Starcraft and Starcraft: Brood War?

Also, ober, I think we can decrease this to 8 or 10 rounds, especially since we have at least 9 participants. Anybody else have a preference?

Brood War is an expansion for Starcraft, so I don't think that should count.  Madden 08 and 09 are basically the same game, but I wouldn't consider Madden 97 and 11 the same game.

That's what I was thinking, too. Can you think of a hard and fast rule that's easy to describe to distinguish between the Maddens?

Maybe more than 4 years apart unless there's a definite leap between a couple?

Yeah, I guess something like that's not a bad idea. I wish I knew more about the games so I could judge better what a "leap" is, but we can figure it out.

Generally it's only when they make the move from one generation of a console to the next.

I would push for 8 rounds personally.

As far as rules between versions, I think it's going to vary by genre.  Games that are 'yearly' probably should follow the '4 year' rule, roughly.  But other games like Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 2 are COMPLETELY different, as are most of the COD games.

Yeah, sequels are definitely different. I'm think for yearly releases, a switch to new generation of console will be considered a separate game. Also, if people can demonstrate that a specific major change was made between releases on the same console, then that would count, too.
