The civ games are great, so long as you only play single player. After all the trouble I had with Civ V multiplayer, there's no way I'm getting another Civ game unless I see reviews saying that it actually works.

I've only done multiplayer a few times in the earlier versions of Civ.  Don't have a real desire to do it.

I'm really hoping that this is really Alpha Centari 2 because that game was awesome.  Really loved the unit customization.

Final Countdown is awesome!

I played a lot of multiplayer Civ 4 - it's fun but takes forever

For fuck's sake, it doesn't have a borderless window option.  It is bullshit in this day in age.

How's the game play?  I haven't read any of the coverage yet!  INFLUENCE ME!

I am still on the fence with this one. One side I like the spacy theme; the other I've put in 30 min of play time in Civ 5 (compared to 300+hours in Civ 2)
GO AWAY

Got through my first game last night.
  • Like all civ games they take awhile to get done
  • The tech tree is completely different from before.  It is presented in a wheel fashion but is more like a tree structure
  • Some unit customization but not like Alpha Centauri.  As you gain affinity points you can choose certain upgrades that apply to all of your units of that type.  All units are upgraded at once.
  • Units don't get obsolete, they get upgrade as above
  • Never been a big fan of barbarians so having to deal with the constant aliens was kinda annoying.  They can be a real pain in the early game doing stuff outside your territory.
  • Same crazy AI.  They declare war on me, I take one of their cities, and now they think I'm a warmonger.

Overall it is fun and when I get more time in a few weeks I'm looking forward to playing more.

Play any online multiplayer? The only reason I would buy this game is to play MP with friends across the country, and from what I've read on a few forums it sounds as if the online is as bad if not worse than Civ 5. And trying to play civ 5 online was the most frustrating experience of my gaming career.

So no :D

The quests are kinda nice and really help guide you to a particular victory condition.
