You've all probably heard of and know a bit about Thomas Edison, but Nikola Tesla was, in my opinion, a much cooler scientist/engineer/inventor and much more worthy of fame. Turns out, Edison was pretty much a douche to Tesla. Even while Tesla proposed alternating current transmission for electric power, Edison did everything he could to make AC seem more dangerous and inferior to DC. We all know how that contest ended up--except for the fact that Tesla ended up completely broke despite being a pioneer of one of the most important technologies we still use today. The fact that he claimed to have invented some very unbelievable devices only adds to his intrigue; I still wonder if we might find some of those claims had more truth than people gave him credit for.

its funny too because, had Edison succeeded in suppressing AC power, we'd be screwed because you can't transmit DC over long distance. We never would have had the electrical revolution and would still be stuck in the mid-industrial age.

Oh, and Charlie, is there any actualy controversy whether or not Jesus existed?  I don't think anyone doubts that he was a real person, though son of God is obviously debatable.

I'm not entirely sure. I've seen people argue that the stories of Jesus were just an amalgamation of a bunch of other stories from that time period, including many from some Egyptian dude named Horus. I guess that could imply that he didn't exist, but I've always been under the assumption that he was a real person.

If he wasn't, he isn't going to be much fun on the island.
