Title: Network Cable Not Plugged In error message
Post by: A Bit of Fruit on December 09, 2007, 07:08:17 PM
I keep getting the 'Network Cable Not Plugged In' error message when it is physically plugged in at both ends. On my Ethernet card the two activity lights are solid green and is the same on the router. I have tried different cables to no avail. The other computer here works fine with the same cables/modem.

Is my ethernet card dead?

I have seen a chunk of dust bunny in the connector cause that.

I tried the card from m sisters computer and it worked, so I went out and bought a new card and the new card causes the same problem, even in a different computer! The new card also doesn't work in my sisters computer either, but the old one works. This is weird.

Did you try different combinations of which port you were plugged into? Perhaps it's the switch.

Or it could be the OS. Maybe try removing the driver and let windows re-find it.

Or...

Maybe it's time to just get a new computer. Yeah.

tried every port/cable combination, uninstalled/reinstalled drivers/restarted around 30 times on each computer

Take the new card back and get another new one.  Sounds like the first one was on it's way out and you got a lemon the second time around.

or you internet connection is just bad.  call your ISP and bitch to them.

doesn't "Network Cable Not Plugged In" just mean, "there's no connection so the Network Cable is probably Not Plugged In but maybe it is plugged in and the problem is elsewhere"  :dunno:

Oh and another thing - the one that has seemed to have broken for for like 5 minutes in the other comp but then went back to how it is now

do the computers see the nics cards? Is the light on the card on?

if the answer to both of those is yes, and you have tried multiple caples with no change, me thinks router/hub/switch is on its way out.

Got it working now...I'm pretty sure it was a driver problem
