Looks like Spain might edge ahead against the Germans - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/10521867.stm

You might think it's silly to trust a prediction on such a basis, but hell, I thought England might have a good chance so up to now that 8-legged mofo has been more accurate than me!

Hmmm, Germany's crushing defeat of Argentina vs Spain's sneaking past Paraguay begs to differ.

BTW according to their owner my cats have correctly predicted 100% of the USA caring level for each game. ;)

Perhaps I don't quite appreciate the intricacies of the game but for 90% of the time that Spain had the ball I was just bored.  The Dutch were a lot more fun to watch.  Though they should have been a man down after that kick to the chest.

All in all it was a fun game to watch.

The third place game was much more fun to watch for the play, but obviously it didn't have the drama. I was rooting for the Dutch to stick it to Nigel Powers, but didn't care that much either way. It was nice to see somebody get their first win.

Spain has now lost to the Swiss and to the US.  I think it's time to accept that they're just Not Very Good

Fair point. It's their style of play: they starve the opposition of possession so they tire them out. Very effective against Paraguay with inevitable results. As soon as the final went into extra time it seemed an inevitable result too, even without the red-card(credit to the English ref who managed to keep most of the players on the pitch for most of the match despite some outrageous fouls and major petulance). Seems the best way to beat a team like Spain would be to score early - but then you'd have to get the ball off them and keep it long enough to do so.  :dunno:
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?.
