Netflix (or other) ratings
« on: May 31, 2007, 08:32:21 PM »
So, do any of you rate movies you've seen on Netflix or some other site? I'm not necessarily talking about rating movies for the benefit of others. I started doing it because I was curious about how accurate their recommendations were. Then I started doing it to see how many movies I could find on there that I've seen and remember enough to give a rating to.

So now I'm up to 737 or so.

If you haven't done this. Try it. It's something to do when you just can't concentrate on what you're really supposed to be doing.

Damn near everything on BB Online is rated 3.5 or 4 stars out of 5.  I completely ignore them.

You might want to see a doctor for that, charlie

Netflix has a semi-reliable ratings system.  It is of course all personal opinion, but in general they do a decent job.  Ratings tend to become more accurate over time.

What I hate are the fucking morons that rate a movie poorly because the disc or their player had problems.

Some rate movies poorly because the movie has subtitles.  Like WTF?  It's in the description.  Sheesh.

I rate the movies so that Netflix will give me more recommendations.  I never look at the overall rating however.

I rate most of the movies I rent from Netflix. I did find it recommending odd stuff because I usually didn't use the lowest two stars. I ended up going back through a bunch of my ratings and being a bit more extreme and it did better with recommendations though. Makes sense if you "really like" every movie then it's got a large pool of movies to suggest to you. Say "hated" to movies with subtitles and it should stop recommending them to you.

I don't give two shits about other people's ratings, and I don't give even a single shit about whether anybody else sees mine. I just do it for the recommendations and to see how many movies I can rate.

So, how many movies have you guys rated? Mike? Knuckle? tgm?
