Isn't slicehost just Rackspace?

Ok just got to a computer and looked it up.  Yes Rackspace bought out Slicehost.  Doing a quick look at Rackspace doesn't seem to offer VPS.  I see a lot of Cloud and managed but no traditional VPS.  So they must be using Slicehost to fill that niche

I looked today too and saw a note that mentioned they'd be migrating their SH VPS to the cloud services part of Rackspace (which is really VPS with a different name). I keep thinking of trying to move my personal site off hostgator and onto one of the low end RS instances, like the 256/512 instances. Just haven't been inspired to do so yet, but I am getting close.

we use rackspace cloud and slicehost.  i seem to remember i received an email saying our slicehost account would be migrated to rackspace cloud. 

rackspace cloud has a lot more to offer since it's attempting to compete with Amazon (API is the big win), but can be more expensive depending on bandwidth usage, which is why we maintain a slicehost presence for clients that fit that pricing model (fixed bandwidth costs)

I seem to recall that email but don't remember the details (basically my interest was:  will it cost me any more?).  So Slicehost will still be a fixed cost?

Putting them on Rackspace's cloud makes a lot of sense.  And it makes sense (to me) to have a VPS-type solution where you aren't worried about CPU hours, creating/destroying instances, or other cloud services.

I honestly don't remember why I opted for that. I feel like I had a reason for it, but just the other day I couldn't recall it. Not sure it can be changed either.

I use my work address for most of mine.  Not sure if that's the smartest thing, but I'm not paying for a PO Box just for that.

All mine were registered with my physical address.  Since I moved I haven't been motivated to update them...

Ok, my DS is up and running, and I will have access to my Plesk panel in a little while.

Any suggestions about things to look at or change before I move the forum over?

Correction no Plesk panel, I forgot I went with managed. Php ini is my biggest thing rite now

Initial thoughts:

Because its managed there are some things that cannot be changed. For example upload_tmp_dir is set to no value. I can't change it and they won't.

Other than that I'm happy again and all is well. Wish I had direct phpini access but setting values thru htaccess is working well.

You can't upload a local php.ini to override the values?  If they're blocking that, that's kinda shitty.

I could if I had root access, but there is no root access on a managed server.
