Title: Additional Ram
Post by: Canuck on June 18, 2006, 02:15:37 PM
When I was putting another hard drive in for storage, I realized I had a third slot (empty) for RAM.  I currenlty have 512MB, would it benefit me if I were to purchase another 512 stick and put it in the third slot?

Thanks for the input!

I'd vote "yes"

If you have 2x256 currently, I'd suggest moving them down and putting the new 512 stick in the first slot.

So it matters which slots you use?
I'm not a hardware expert and I didn't know there was a difference.

It's not going to stop you, per se, from using it however you wish, but chances are (if the old RAM is stock stuff), he'll buy something with a lower CAS latency and you always want the faster stuff in the first slot.
