Title: Best sport
Post by: PJYelton on April 20, 2007, 02:03:20 PM
Ok, so I don't think anyone would disagree that family, friends, nationality, region, athleticism, etc plays a huge factor in what sports a person is most interested in.

So my question is, if we hypothetically take out all bias and give a person the option to watch/play every common sport out there, which one on average do you think they would eventually like the most and why?  This could be either to play or to follow, doesn't matter.

to play, probably soccer
to watch, hockey.

personally, i say football for both - but i think the above two would fit your criteria for removing all bias.

I have no idea. I agree on american football for both, but there's probably a lot of bias in that.

To be honest I never really though too deeply on why certain sports are fun to watch/play. I just like them all and follow the ones I follow for historical and convenience reasons.

Football.

I'm going to have to go with soccer, unfortunately.  Why?  Because it is the easiest sport to understand.  It's also understood internationally.

Personally I would go with Football or Baseball, but those would be biased answers.

My serious answer is football - some of the most in-shape people on the planet (linemen notwithstanding), super fast action, tons of strategy, and people that leave the playing field paralyzed.

>super fast action

for 3 seconds at a time, then you have to wait for everyone to get organized again.

I agree with micah, soccer to play because it's so easy to pick up. Without the biases there's also a lack of motivation to learn complicated sports like hockey or football.

For watching, hockey.
It has the pace of basketball (but points are actually worth something!),
it's physical like football, (but they don't blow the wistle every 3 seconds),
it has the teamwork of soccer (but goals actually get scored and people don't hurt their knee when the ball hits their elbow),
and everyone has a big wood stick and razor sharp blades strapped to their feet. It doesn't get much better than that!

With the new NHL, this is becoming closer to a reality than ever.

Do we consider Golf a sport around here?

I vote swimming but that's just cause I used to be one and it's funny to watch people who can't swim well flail their arms. Good exercise and entertainment. (and chick wear very little clothes).

Hockey's good on TV.

1) if you want a sport where girls don't wear much, try beach volleyball
2) I anticipate a discussion about whether PC Gaming is a sport or not.

As much as something like chess or poker is (ie they're not, but people will claim they are forever)

I think some of the hotest chicks have been in figure skating.  Not all of em but a bunch!

I prefer the swimming body, but you know, that's then we'd be getting biased, wouldn't we? (oh, tgm already got to that)

I'd probably say football or soccer.  ...Or homerun derby with a tennis ball just because.
