Title: Router/Modem
Post by: Canuck on May 28, 2005, 02:07:33 PM
This is just a general question regarding modems and routers.  Is there any benefit in terms of performance if you unplug/reset the modem and router once in a while?

Thanks

i don't think so. if it had a mac address cache it would actually reduce its benefit to have it cleared (but that would be a really small, temporary delay). the only reason i ever reset my dsl modem or router is when it's not working.

I've noticed over at my aunt's that when the connection starts acting `funny', which means it gets slower and faster by times, if you unplug and re-plug the router, it will all work fine.
I sometimes have to do this to my satelite receiver, but that's another story.

I don't think there is a benefit either, but like the others, I do have to unplug/reset mine every few months or so.
